Siesta Key's Ranking Drops On U.S. Best Beach List: Tripadvisor

SARASOTA, FL — After being named the No. 1 beach in Tripadvisor’s annual list of the top 25 beaches in the United States in 2020, Siesta Beach’s ranking has dropped to No. 17 this year.

The list, “Best Beaches in the United States – Travelers’ Choice Awards,” is based on ratings and reviews collected from travelers.

Siesta Beach has a 4.5 rating on Tripadvisor based on 7,816 reviews.

“Soft white sand, a gentle breeze and the Gulf of Mexico. Enough said. There aren’t many shells to step on (thank goodness) which only adds to the allure,” according to the Siesta Key description on Tripadvisor’s list.

Siesta Beach in Siesta Key topped the list three years since 2015 – it was No. 1 in 2015, 2017 and 2020 – according to the Visit Sarasota County website.

It also made No. 11 on Tripadvisor’s “Best Beaches in the World” list in 2020. It didn’t make the world rankings this year.

Visit Sarasota County shared Siesta Beach’s new ranking on Twitter.

“Number 17 in the U.S. on (Tripadvisor’s) Travelers’ Choice list for 2021. Number 1 in our (heart,)” the local tourism group tweeted.

A number of Florida beaches made the 2020 list of the best in the country. St. Pete Beach leads the pack, topping the list at No. 1. Meanwhile, Madeira Beach is No. 9, Ormond Beach is No. 12, Henderson Beach State Park in Destin is No. 13, Pensacola Beach is No. 15, Treasure Island Beach is No. 16 and Clearwater Beach is No. 18.
