Sorority's Controversial Bikini Flick Benefits Charity, Producer Says
The University of Miami Delta Gamma recruitment video has been raising eyebrows across the country since its release.
MIAMI, FL — As the bikini-clad women featured in the University of Miami Delta Gamma sorority’s 2016 recruitment video continue to draw attention, the flick’s producer is taking critics to task.
The video, Artec Media’s Diego Camejo, insists serves not only as a recruitment tool, but also a fundraiser for the sorority’s national foundation, Service for Sight. Delta Gamma became the first sorority in the country to establish its own philanthropic foundation when it launched Service for Sight in 1936, Camejo said. The organization helps the blind and visually impaired across the country.

Camejo is also taking issue with the cost estimates tossed around since the video’s release. Some have estimated the production cost the sorority between $200,000 and $400,000 to create.
“Despite the popular belief that this video cost hundreds of thousands to produce, I agreed to make this video and original song at virtually no cost to the sorority,” Camejo told Patch. “In addition, all the proceeds from the video views will be donated by Artec Media to Delta Gamma’s national foundation, Service for Sight.”

Since Artec Media published the video to YouTube on Jan. 6, it has received more than 1.5 million views.
The production features the sisters of Delta Gamma decked out in their beach finery set among numerous iconic Miami backdrops. It also boasts an original song, “Crash Into You,” with vocals by Joselyn Rivera, a former contestant on “The Voice.”
The video has drawn national attention and a fair amount of criticism since its release.
Miami New Times called the video “the most insane one we’ve ever seen.” Chron.com says it’s the “most over-the-top recruitment video imaginable.” The sleek production even caught the attention of Elle magazine, which explored the costs of putting together such a professional production. Elle’s estimates have since been disputed by Camejo.
