Sunday Booze Ban Lifted in Sarasota County, Not Sarasota

What are your thoughts about the move?

The days of waiting for the clock to strike high noon on Sundays before alcohol purchases can be made are over in unincorporated Sarasota County.

Commissioners agreed Tuesday to lift the ban that coincided with church hours, according to WTSP.

While the move technically legalizes sales before noon in most parts of the county, the cities of Longboat Key, North Port and Sarasota still have local ordinances in place that squelch sales prior to noon on Sundays, The Tampa Tribune reported.

Lifting longstanding Sunday sales bans has become commonplace in many Florida communities. Nearby Manatee, Charlotte, DeSoto and Lee counties have no Sunday restrictions in place. Hillsborough County, however, still bans sales prior to 11 a.m. on Sundays.
