Shark Attacks Swimmer Off Siesta Key: Report

A person was brought to Sarasota Memorial Hospital Tuesday morning to be treated for a shark bite, reports said.

SARASOTA, FL — A swimmer was bitten by a shark Tuesday morning in the waters off Siesta Key, the Herald-Tribune reported.

Sarasota County Fire Department was called to Point of Rocks Circle around 8:24 a.m. for a medical emergency, reports said. The shark bite victim was brought to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment.

While Sarasota Memorial staff has confirmed the injury was a shark bite, they wouldn’t release any other information about the victim or incident, the Herald-Tribune said.

There hasn't been a shark bite — provoked or otherwise — in Siesta Key since 2007, WFTS reported. Sarasota County has only seven recorded shark bites since 1882.
