Teen Driver Dies After Crashing Into Tree In Sarasota: FHP

An 18-year-old girl died after losing control of her SUV on Beneva Road. Her passenger, a 16-year-old girl, was seriously injured, FHP said.

SARASOTA, FL — An 18-year-old girl from Sarasota died after losing control of her SUV on Beneva Road early Tuesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The single-vehicle crash happened south of White Sulphur Place just before 1:30 a.m.

The girl lost control of her SUV, driving over the median and hitting a tree, FHP said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her passenger, a 16-year-old Sarasota girl, was seriously injured in the crash and brought to a local hospital. She wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the agency said.

The crash remains under investigation.
