Temple Beth Sholom Schools Hosts Parent University Workshops

For the first time, Temple Beth Sholom Schools will hold Parent University, a series of parenting workshops January 15 from 7-8 PM.

For the first time, Temple Beth Sholom Schools (www.tbsschools.org), a Sarasota preschool to eighth grade private school, will hold Parent University, a series of parenting workshops, beginning Thursday, Jan. 15 from 7 – 8 p.m. in the school’s library.

Free of charge and open to the public, the mission of Parent University is to provide an opportunity for parents to learn how to best support and encourage their children through the student’s academic journey. Various industry experts will conduct the seminars.

This Thursday, speaker Cameron Parker, an IT specialist with the Sarasota County Public Schools, will discuss technology, internet safety and social media. She will address the primary online risks and threats to your computer and children as well as identify the steps you can take to protect your computer, your family and yourself. She will also explain how to teach children about using mobile and social networking safely and provide assistance with standing up to online bullying.

Other future dates and topics will include:

  • February 12 – Project-based learning with Chris Wilkins, a faculty member from Buck Institute National
  • March 19 – Your kid is a brat and it’s all your fault with Rabbi Elaine Glickman from Temple Emanu-El
  • April 30 – Summer Enrichment with Angela Hartvigsen, an arts specialist from the Sarasota County School Board
