Temple Emanu-El presents Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will perform protest music of the 1960s; selections from MLK speeches and writings will be read

Temple Emanu-El will host a Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Benderson Family Hall of the temple (151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota); event takes place on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 11:00am. The sponsors of the event are the temple Brotherhood, Sisterhood and Social Action Committe.

The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will provide musical entertainment, performing protest music of the 1960s. There will be readings from speeches and writings of MLK. Local dignitaries from the religious and civic communities will be in attendance.

Temple Emanu-El has a rich history of programs celebrating diversity and intercultural activities. The temple has a long-standing relationship with the Westcoast School for Human Development and its founder, Dr. Henry L. Porter; for years it has held a special Shabbat service honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in partnership with the Westcoast School.
