The Raising of a Memorial

A tribute to those who died on September 11, 2001 – and those who died trying to save others – was unveiled in Sarasota ten years later.

Saraosta is doubly linked to the tragedy of 9/11. It was at Booker Elementary School that. And it was at nearby Venice Municipal Airport where some of the perpetrators took flight training.

On Sunday a memorial was unveiled at the public entrance to the new Sarasota Police Headquarters to honor the more than 4,000 people who died in the worst act of terrorism in American history. The twisted and scorched steel is a testiment to the horror and heroism of an infamous day ten years ago.

A second memorial was dedicated that day to honor Warren Jones, a Sarasota Police Officer killed in the line of duty in 1975.
