The Verona Model Pool Makes a Splash

With the luxury real estate market back in full swing in Southwest Florida, model row is back again at The Concession Golf Club, centered between Sarasota and Manatee Counties. While there are several design trends that may catch your eye while browsing through the multimillion-dollar models, Todd Hubbard of LeeSure Water Pools, a subsidiary of Lee Wetherington Homes, notes that the pool at the Verona model “is a show stopper.”

Todd designed his very first pool for Lee Wetherington Homes almost 15 years ago; since then he’s created close to 2,000 more, but it’s the Verona pool that he says is a favorite. “We really wanted to incorporate some of the most innovative design elements in this pool,” said Hubbard. “It’s a resort-style pool in a residential space; we hope customers who buy this pool feel like they are on vacation year-round,” he said.

The first thing to catch your eye is sure to be the most unique design element – the pool’s aesthetically pleasing bridge and island – epitomizing the pool’s resort-style feel. A solitary palm tree stands tall on the island, which can only be accessed by the bridge.

There’s an underwater sitting area with three bar stools with dark beige granite seats, and stepping-stones to navigate the wet areas complete the design. The cool barstool concept mimics the swim-up bars that can be seen in resorts in the Caribbean.

The design includes a special shallow area called a tanning shelf or in-pool sun deck. This 100-square-foot shallow space is about 5 - 8 inches deep, situated at the entry of the pool. This small section allows for two lounge chairs and a table for beverages – the perfect place for sunbathing beauties.

The 750-square-foot pool has a curved, free-form silhouette with an energy-efficient, variable-speed pump with remote control. An illusion perimeter-overflow spa allows water to overflow from the spa into the pool. Travertine, a natural stone that is becoming more and more prevalent for pool decks, and an Earthy mosaic tile complete the look. Homeowners also have the ability to control the pool remotely via a smart phone.

Disappearing-corner sliding glass doors, a design element Lee Wetherington introduced into the market years ago, open up to the spacious outdoor oasis. Tray ceilings of Cypress are stained to match the tropical hardwood cabinets from Brazil in the outdoor kitchen.

The1,000-square-foot out-of-doors kitchen features two large grills – a combination of charcoal and gas – with refrigerator, wet bar and an ice bin for drinks. The commercial-grade vent fan is tastefully accented with a cultured-stone hood that matches the cultured-stone columns and fireplace framing.

The outdoor living area's fire feature was truly a collaborative effort between Todd and the entire home design team. The group wanted a safe but cool interaction between water and fire, highlighted by the fire's reflection on the pool surface. The natural gas fireplace can be controlled via remote control.

With multiple seating areas and an outdoor dining table for six, it’s truly a party planner’s dream. There’s also plenty of room for entertaining on the 1,500-square-foot pool deck.

Todd understands that some people haven't had pools previously, and he’s sensitive to that. He helps customers ask the right questions to figure out exactly what they want in their perfect pool.
