Tip Leads to Drug Trafficking Arrest

The Sarasota man had heroin and methamphetamine in his possession.

A tip from a confidential informant on Monday put Sarasota County deputies on the trail of a man who now faces felony drug trafficking charges.

According to the sheriff’s office, the informant told detectives Tyrone Anderson, 40, was using a home in the 1800 block of Sanford Circle in Sarasota to store large amounts of drugs. The tipster also told detectives Anderson would arrive at the home driving a maroon Chevrolet Equinox to pick up drugs and then leave with them in a duffle bag.

With that information in hand, deputies decided to watch the Sanford Circle home, an arrest report states. When they did, they watched as Anderson arrived in the vehicle, went into the home and then emerged carrying a duffle bag.

Detectives approached Anderson, the report stated, and saw the bag sitting in the Equinox’s back seat. A subsequent search of the bag turned up nearly 34 grams of heroin and 552 grams of methamphetamine, the report said. A total of $2,200 in cash was also found.

Anderson was charged with trafficking in heroin and trafficking in methamphetamine. He was being held in the Sarasota County Jail on Tuesday without bond.
