University of Tampa dean to play in free Advent organ recital
Church of the Redeemer offers weekday respite during the hectic holiday season

This year’s season of Advent organ recitals at the Church of the Redeemer, 222 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota, concludes on Wed., Dec. 17, with a free, mid-day performance by Haig Mardirosian, the dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Tampa. The recital begins shortly after noon at 12:10 and ends promptly at 12:40 p.m.
Mardirosian will play on Redeemer’s 50-stop Nichols & Simpson pipe organ, providing a brief but welcome weekday respite during the hectic holiday season. The recital is free, with offerings accepted, and all in the community are invited to come.
Mardirosian has performed in many of the most important concert venues in North America and has released 20 commercial recordings. He has released more than a dozen recordings on labels such as Gothic, Centaur, Organo Phon, Mitra, Musical Heritage Society, Westminster and Monitor. His recordings of pieces by Eben, Liszt, Brahms and English composers of the 18th and 20th centuries have been widely recognized. In addition to his performance work, Mardirosian has contributed nearly 1,500 reviews and features to publications like the Baltimore News-American, Forecast, The American Organist, The Diapason, the Journal of American Organ Building and Fanfare.
