SARASOTA, FL — A worker contracted by the city of Sarasota was seriously injured in an unprovoked stabbing in downtown Sarasota on Friday afternoon.
Aaron Kvamme, 32, of Sarasota stabbed the man, who was working on the lights in a tree in front of RE/MAX Platinum Realty at 1500 State Street, around 2:50 p.m.
The victim was contracted by the city to do electrical work in the area, according to a Sarasota police spokesperson. He was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and was treated for his injuries, which were serious, but not life threatening.

The worker, whose name hasn’t been released under Marsy’s Law, was standing by his ladder on the sidewalk when Kvamme came up to him “out of nowhere,” stabbing him in the lower abdomen with a knife, according to a Sarasota police report.

The victim tried to chase the suspect, who ran from the scene, but collapsed from his injury. When a Sarasota parking enforcement employee noticed the victim on the ground bleeding, he followed Kvamme from the area until the suspect was taken into custody, the police report said.

During their investigation, police learned that the suspect also assaulted a worker at Brick’s Smoked Meats, located at 1528 State Street, while she was outside cleaning a table just before the stabbing.
Kvamme called her names and made verbal threats, telling her that “he was going to kill her, rape her, cut her head off, and get the cartel to kill her and her family,” according to a police report.
The Brick’s employee told officers that she “was in fear for her life.”
Kvamme was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and assault. He is being held at Sarasota County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
