Van Going Wrong Way On I-75 Causes 3-Vehicle Crash: FHP

A van going the wrong way on I-75 caused a 3-vehicle crash in southern Sarasota County Wednesday night, Florida Highway Patrol said.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — A van going the wrong way on I-75 in southern Sarasota County Wednesday night caused a three-vehicle crash, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The van, driven by a 69-year-old Port Charlotte man, was heading north in the southbound lanes just north of Laurel Road around 9 p.m., the agency said.

He hit the front of an SUV going south on I-75 in the left lane, approaching Laurel Road, as well as a car directly behind it.

The van’s driver, as well as the SUV driver, a 50-year-old woman, and her passengers — a 15-year-old girl and 21-year-old man — all of North Port, suffered minor injuries in the crash, FHP said.

The three women in the car — the 18-year-old driver and her 19-year-old and 20-year-old passengers, all from St. Petersburg — were uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
