City government is closing down for the day, but a parade will take over downtown.

Veterans Day is just around the corner and Sarasota is planning to take time to honor those who have served.

In recognition of the Nov. 11 holiday, the city plans to close its administration offices. Residents can rest assured that solid waste and recycling collection will not be impacted. Some of the city’s recreational facilities will also be open for resident enjoyment. They include:

  • The Bobby Jones Golf Club – It will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • The Lido Pool – It will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • The Robert L. Taylor Community Complex – The city plans to keep it open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The city’s annual Veterans Day Parade is also planned to take place starting at 10 a.m. at Main Street and Osprey Avenue in downtown. A brief ceremony will follow at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park at 11 a.m. The park is located at Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue.
