Watch: Cadillac’s Super Bowl Ad Stars Edward Scissorhands’ Son
Winona Ryder, Timothée Chalamet star in Cadillac's homage to "Edward Scissorhands." Did you know the cult classic was filmed in Tampa Bay?

TAMPA BAY, FL — Each year, many people are as drawn to the Super Bowl for the creative commercials that air during it as much as they’re interested in the game itself. And Cadillac’s Super Bowl LV commercial, an homage to director Tim Burton’s 1990 cult classic film “Edward Scissorhands,” didn’t disappoint.
The commercial advertises the luxury car manufacturer’s new All-Electric Cadillac LYRIQ.
While star Johnny Depp, who played the movie’s titular character, is absent from the spoof, Winona Ryder reprises her role as Kim Boggs. She stars alongside Timothée Chalamet, who plays Edgar, the son Boggs had with Edward Scissorhands.

Portraying Boggs, Ryder introduces the commercial's storyline.
“This is the story of a boy with scissors for hands,” she said. “No, not that one. This one, my son, Edgar.”

Life is hard for Edgar, who faces various challenges because of his scissorhands. He’s banned from the public bus for accidentally cutting the request cord. He pops a football thrown to him by a friend at school. And when he gets creative with his sandwich-making skills at his food-service job, his boss asks him to reign it in.
Things are looking pretty grim for Edgar, until his mother buys him a LYRIQ, which he’s able to drive because of the vehicle’s hands-free Super Cruise technology. At the end of the commercial, he smiles for the first time.
“And Edgar drove off into the sunset, but don’t worry, he still makes it home for dinner – occasionally,” Ryder said.
While it’s a fun commercial for movie and pop culture fans, it has extra meaning for those in the Tampa Bay area, where “Edward Scissorhands” was filmed.
The Boggs’ family home in the flick was actually located in Lutz’s Carpenters Run subdivision. The iconic property at 1774 Tinsmith Cir. sold last year for around $230,000.
The house – like many in that area – had just been built in 1989 when Burton turned the neighborhood into a movie set. To fit his creative vision, he had the Boggs’ home and other houses on the street painted in 1960s-style pastel colors, Fox 13 reported.
Those watching the film will recognize other spots in the Tampa Bay area. One scene features Lakeland’s Southgate Shopping Center and it’s hard-to-miss art deco signage, and the show-and-tell scene were filmed locally as well, Bay News 9 reported.
The castle on the hill, where Peg Boggs (played by Dianne Wiest) discovers Edward locked up, was built on a Dade City farm, and added to the film using special effects, Fox 13 reported. Meanwhile, the bank scenes, where Edward tries to secure funding for his hair salon, were filmed at the Rivergate Tower, known to many as the Sykes building, in downtown Tampa.
