Watch: Sarasota Cops Sing for Your Safety

They've created a holiday ditty to remind folks to watch out for auto burglars.

The year isn’t even over yet and the city of Sarasota has already logged more than 500 auto burglaries.

Hoping to curb those numbers, members of the Sarasota Police Department recently donned their holiday finest and took to song. In their unique spin on “Jingle Bells,” officers, including Chief Bernadette DiPino, sing about the virtues of locking doors, hiding valuables and getting smart to avoid crime.

“To date, there have been 510 vehicle burglaries in the City of Sarasota in 2015,” the department noted on Facebook. “Of the 510 vehicle burglaries, 426 of those have happened to vehicles that have no signs of forced entry meaning they were unlocked. That’s an astounding 83.5 percent of vehicle burglaries in the City of Sarasota that have occurred to vehicles left unlocked.”
