Water Safety Reminder

Water safety is an important topic year-round in Florida. FSPA wants to remind everyone how to stay safe around water.

Florida loses more children under the age of 5 to drowning than any other state. According to the Florida Department of Health Office of Injury Prevention, enough children to fill three to four preschool classrooms drown annually. The Florida Swimming Pool Association (FSPA) is joining thousands of organizations all over the world in educating the public on swimming pool safety. August is National Drowning Awareness month, let’s work together to increase knowledge and prevent drowning.

Everyone will enjoy a happier, healthier pool and spa experience by remembering the FSPA rules of S-A-F-E-T-Y.

  • S is for more than SUPERVISION – a child must be watched closely.
  • A is for ALERT – pay attention, play smart.
  • F is for FREE – be substance free at all times.
  • E is for EMERGENCY Procedures – get training and education.
  • T is for TEACHING – you are never too old or too young for swimming lessons.
  • Y is for YOU – By thinking about SAFETY all of the time, YOU are being a RESONSIBLE pool owner and user!

FSPA urges everyone to find swimming lessons in their local area. Organizations such as the YMCA, The Red Cross, ISR, US Swim School Association, and Swim America are just a few examples of organizations that offer lessons.
