How do you choose what restaurant, bar, food event to attend? You read reviews, right? Well, so did I, until I moved to Sarasota that is!! When we moved here five years ago, I was excited to explore the local food community. I read the local newspaper and magazine reviews of restaurants and made a list of the ones I wanted to try. After going to several restaurants I was wondering what in the world the reviewers were talking about!!! It took a very long time to sift through the mediocre places (that had great reviews) to find a couple of spots I liked. What I started to realize was that every review I read from local journalists and food writers (not yelp type reviews) was a positive, generic review. Not a bad one in the bunch. Impossible!!!
The other place I look is on sites like Yelp, Trip Advisor, and Urban Spoon. The problem is on those kind of sites you don't know who your source is. The purpose of this blog is to give locals and visitors a place to check in and find great places to eat from someone who cooks, loves food, and is generally interested in all things food.
