When Do Sarasota Kids Go Back to School?
The 2016-17 school year kicks off in Sarasota County in August.

SARASOTA, FL — Summer’s winding down and that means it’s almost time for the kids to hit the books once more. Kids in Sarasota County public schools will find they do get to enjoy summer just a little bit longer than students in other nearby counties.
The first day of classes for public school students in Sarasota County is Aug. 22. The kids do, however, get a day off shortly thereafter courtesy of Labor Day, Sept. 5.
The next break for Sarasota kids won’t come until Oct. 24 when kids get the day off courtesy of teacher planning following the Oct. 21 end of the first grading period. Thanksgiving break is set to take place Nov. 23-25 with the winter break set for Dec. 19 through Jan. 2.
