Whiz Kids: Joie Giannini and Culhane Cole

Grade: 12

Accomplishment: Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School seniors were recently honored during the school’s annual Senior Awards Night, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota. 

This year’s Outstanding Senior Award went to Joie Giannini and Culhane Cole. This award recognizes a female student and a male student who exhibit qualities of intellectual achievement, religious and moral responsibility, sense of purpose and direction, and personal and social responsibility.

Joie was the student government president during her senior year. She was a member of the National Honor Society and played varsity basketball. Joie will attend the University of Central Florida in the fall.

Culhane Cole was president of the National Honor Society and will receive a Cardinal Mooney Honors Diploma. He had many key roles in the Theater Department’s productions and was captain of the CMHS football team. Culhane will be heading to Florida State University. 

This year’s graduating class has received more than $4.5 million in academic scholarships and the majority have received Florida Bright Futures Scholarships, which represents approximately $1 million in tuition funding.
