Who Let The Dogs Out? Sarasota Police Seek Humane Society Suspect

Police are looking for a suspect who trespassed at the Humane Society of Sarasota County March 24 and opened all the dog kennels.

SARASOTA, FL – Sarasota police are looking for a suspect who entered the fenced yard at the Humane Society of Sarasota County on 15th Street March 24.

The individual, who was caught on camera, opened all the dog kennels allowing the canines to roam freely, police shared on Facebook Tuesday. No property or animals were taken, and the person never entered the building.

The incident left two of the pups “seriously injured,” though, the Humane Society wrote on Facebook Monday.

The organization has since received an emergency Capacity Building Grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to implement additional security measures at the facility.

“We take the health, well-being, and safety of our animals very seriously. As a local nonprofit, HSSC relies on individuals, businesses, and foundations to keep our mission alive,” the Humane Society wrote. “We are truly grateful for the Community Foundation’s responsiveness, generosity, and partnership. We are stronger and safer together.”
