Worker Falls To Death From 18-Story Condo Tower In Sarasota: Police

A worker at the Bayso Sarasota condo tower, which is under construction, fell from the 18th floor to his death Wednesday, police said.

SARASOTA, FL — A worker died after falling Wednesday from the 18-story Bayso Sarasota condominium tower, according to a Sarasota Police Department news release.

The Kolter Urban development is under construction at 301 Quay Commons and sold out its 149 units last year before its completion.

A 911 call about the 21-year-old man falling from the 18th floor was made around 10:30 a.m., police said.

The victim was painting on that floor of the construction site at the time he fell, for unknown reasons, to the fifth floor, according to SPD.

Sarasota County Fire Department responded first and was trauma alerted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

He was taken to the hospital before detectives were sent to the construction site around 2:15 p.m., police said.

Investigators interviewed witnesses, and examined and photographed the construction site, which are standard procedures for accidental deaths.

Though police believe the death was accidental, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
