Wrong-Way DUI Driver Hit Semi-Truck On I-75 In Sarasota: FHP

SARASOTA, FL — A wrong-way driver suspected of driving under the influence hit a semi-trailer truck on Interstate 75 Sunday morning in Sarasota, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Angel Eduardo Martinez, a 21-year-old Spring Hill man, was driving south in the northbound inside travel lane of I-75 near mile marker 208, north of Bee Ridge Road, just before 5 a.m., the agency said.

The truck was traveling north in the northbound center lane at the time. He hit the right side rear of the truck's trailer.

Martinez was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, FHP said. He suffered minor injuries in the crash and was brought to Sarasota County Jail.

The truck driver, a 35-year-old Ruskin man, was uninjured.
