Plans for Miss Susie’s Newtown Kitchen Canceled
Plans for Miss Susie’s Newtown Kitchen, a restaurant and job training program, have been canceled by the Sarasota City Commission following years of delays, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.
The project saw numerous construction delays and also faced financial issues. The restaurant had received a $150,000 loan from the city.
Tableside Cares, the fundraising arm of Miss Susie’s, agreed to tear down the shell building that was never completed, reports said. The city now owns all intellectual property rights for Miss Susie’s, including the company’s food truck.
Wicked Cantina Expands into St. Petersburg
Wicked Cantina is expanding north into St. Petersburg, according to St. Pete Rising.
The local Mexican chain opened its first restaurant on Anna Maria Island in Bradenton Beach in 2014 and later opened a Sarasota location just outside downtown in 2017.
The new St. Pete restaurant will open at 3650 Tyrone Blvd. N., which previously housed a Sonny’s BBQ, in January.
Downtown Sarasota Sushi Restaurant Closes
Yume Sushi, which has called downtown Sarasota home for nearly two decades since opening in 2005, has closed its doors for good.
“After 18 years of serving our beloved community, we decided to sell our business to take a break,” the restaurant’s original owners wrote in a Facebook post. “Unfortunately, the new owners were not able to continue to run Yume as we had hoped and have decided to close the doors shortly after the sale. Saying goodbye to Yume is bittersweet, but we wanted to make sure that we give our extended family, loyal customers and patrons, and Sarasota community a proper farewell and huge thank you for your continued, unwavering support.”
New Sarasota Deli Reopens After Temporary Closure
After temporarily closing days earlier this month after its grand opening because of staffing issues, the Original Wolfie’s & Rascal House has reopened in Sarasota.
The deli, which closed in early November, reopened its doors to diners Nov. 20.
“The Original Wolfie’s and Rascal House are officially open again. We are excited to welcome you to our stage where YOU will feel like a Broadway star,” owners wrote in a Facebook post.
