Arrest Made in Sugar Shack Murder

A 50-year-old Tampa man has been charged in the July shooting.

The Tampa Police Department has made an arrest in a July 14 shooting that took place outside the Sugar Shack.

Calvin Lewis, 50, of 3730 Mistwood Drive has been charged in connection with the shooting death of Rodrick Randale Alexander, 32.

The incident unfolded outside the 5110 N. 40th St. club around 1:30 that July morning when shots were fired. Alexander was hit and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he later died.

Police say shooting was related to an incident that had taken place inside the club that spilled outside.

Through the course of their investigation, they identified Lewis and were able to obtain a warrant for his arrest Wednesday. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force assisted with the arrest, which was made early Thursday morning.

Lewis faces one count of first-degree murder. Lewis has been arrested several times in the past on charges ranging from grand theft of a firearm to drug possession, Hillsborough County Jail records indicate.
