Pinteresting Things - Drawer Organization

If you're dissatisfied with your current dresser drawer arrangement, maybe it's time to try a new way (I know - I couldn't believe there was more than one way, either).

Confession:  I still put away my kids' clean laundry myself.  I don't make them do it.  Okay, let's tell it like it is.  I WANT to do it because I'm a control freak.  I know it's a life skill they should learn, they're old enough, I need to get a life, blah, blah, blah.  In any case, that's a discussion for a different day.  Today we are going to talk about drawer organization.  Drawer organization that is more helpful even if your kids DO put away their own clothes (note to self).

This is something useful I found on Pinterest that does not involve food.  People have been asking me if I'm a good cook because of all the recipes I pin on Pinterest and I'm starting to feel like a fraud.  However, nobody has asked me if my house is organized because of all the organization tips I pin, so I need to focus on pinning that stuff because I realllllly want someone to ask me that about my house.  You know, so I can laugh until I can't breathe and tears are squirting out of my eyes - I LOVE laughing like that.  It's good for what ails ya, as my Grandma used to say.

So drawer organization.  Eradicate from your mind the normal method of putting away your shirts, pants, pajamas, swimsuits, and yes, even underwear.  Because if you just keep piling them on top of one another, WHEN DOES THE SHIRT ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PILE EVER GET WORN???  Think about it.  I mean, unless you go looking for it because you remember it's there.  That does not apply to me because I have no memory.  Sometimes it applies to my kids which means that the drawer gets ransacked into a twisted, disheveled, unrecognizable casserole of clothing.

How do you fix this dilemma?  How do you shift your drawer organization paradigm and find drawer bliss and utopia??  I'm glad you asked.  It's very simple.  Instead of stacking your clothes vertically, you stack them horizontally.  Huh?  Please see the photo for Exhibit A, also known as the visual aid.  Because I don't know how to describe it with any other words.  And I'm a writer.  "Sideways," maybe?

However you want to describe it, it's genius and the end result is clear:  you can see everything in there - every pair of pants you own - because you're seeing the side of the pile!  Think of books on a library shelf.  If they're just stacked in a pile on the floor, you can't see Charlotte's Web on the bottom.  Charlotte's Web is never getting read.  Poor Wilbur.

I have one disclaimer.  IF you or your children already have more clothes than should be stuffed in any given drawer (Anybody?  No?  Just me?), this will not fix that problem.  This will not magically give you more room to store your clothes.  Believe me, I was hoping.  In fact, if you that problem, this may make it more annoying since you can't use the same method that applies to shoving the trash deeper into the trash can.

The final analysis is this:  If you want to see all your available clothing choices without throwing them all on the floor, and if you're worried about the clothes on the bottom of the pile that are neglected and forgotten (it's really very sad), then this system is what you need.  Give it a try and let me know how you like it.  It's changed our lives.  Not really, but we do like it better.
