So Close and Yet So Far

I'm so bummed right now.  What are the odds that the chances to cross TWO items off your bucket list would coincide and interfere with each other?!

(Whispers) I really want to be in a flash mob.  (Back to regular voice) There.  I said it.  I've seen them on TV and watched videos of them on the Internet.  I got chills watching the "Hallelujah Chorus" one in Macy's.  I'm not just saying I want to see one, although that would be pretty cool, too.  I want to be one of those people that just starts dancing and/or singing.  It's like real life turned into a musical.  And one of my biggest complaints about real life is that it doesn't have a soundtrack.  Oh, it would be so awesome if it did.

And now apparently July is National Parks and Recreation Month, so the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department is having, you guessed it, a flash mob.  In downtown Tampa.  My kids take gymnastics classes at one of their facilities, Tampa Gym & Dance in New Tampa.  It's like it was meant to be.  It feels so right.  But I can't do it.

No, it's not cold feet.  I am actually going to be doing something else that I've always wanted to do while this flash mob is doing their thing.  I'm being purposefully cryptic about what the other thing is that I'm going to be doing because I will blog about that in another post.  I believe this is called a cliffhanger.  Stay tuned.

For anyone reading this who would like to participate and is NOT doing some other important thing, or for anyone who just wants to go watch (take a video for me, please), Rock Your Park Flash Mob will be happening on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 6:30 PM (participants should arrive at 5:30 PM) in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N. Ashley Drive.  No dance experience required.  Oh, that would have been so perfect for me.

There is a video on YouTube that will teach you the dance moves.  There are rehearsals scheduled for Wednesday, June 22nd, at 8:00 PM and Tuesday, June 28th, at 8:00 PM at the Wayne C. Papy Athletic Center, 6925 N. Florida Avenue, and Tuesday, June 28th, at 8:00 PM at the Loretta Ingraham Center,  1615 N. Hubert Avenue.

I hope another opportunity to seemingly randomly start dancing and singing in a public place filled with unsuspecting innocent people will cross my path someday.  Until then, I will have to longingly watch videos on YouTube.  I can't wait to hear (and hopefully, see) how the Rock Your Park Flash Mob turns out.  Rock on, flash mobs.
