Okay, so I'm pretty sure it was just yesterday that I was posting RIGHT HERE about all the fun things we were going to do during the summer and now, as of today, all three of my kids are back in school. The older two girls started 5th and 2nd grade yesterday and my baby started Pre-K today!
Even though it went by quickly we had a fun summer and did most of the things we wanted to do at least once. We were busy, but in a different way. Now we will have routines and schedules to keep up with. I think the discipline and structure is just as good for me as it is for them.
And now that my youngest is in school for three hours a day, I have a little time to pursue my interests -- writing and perhaps running. And even though the kids are not at home, I think there is more fun to be had for them, too. The teachers definitely take them outside more than this indoor girl does. And there is more tolerance for paint and Play-Doh to be found in their classrooms than there is in this house, to be sure.

So while the separation is tough, the growing and changing and learning is good for all of us. And sometimes the separation isn't even that hard anymore. My oldest one is ten years old, and she could hardly get out of the car fast enough on the first day. She's a safety patrol this year and she saw the belts being passed out already. The other two were slightly nervous about meeting a new teacher and new classmates, but probably not as much about leaving home.
So it's on to the adventure of a new school year and transitioning back into the mode of getting up early and packing lunches (probably the two things I like least about school). Only now I have two different schools to keep track of and three social lives to keep up with, since the little one is also taking gymnastics and dance classes. So my brain capacity may be put to the test. But I am up for the challenge.
