Depression Closes Road in Front of Hospital

Access to St. Joseph's remains open, but some lanes of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard are closed.

The Tampa Police Department is reporting a depression opened up in the roadway in front of St. Joseph’s Hospital Tuesday night, forcing the closing of some lanes along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

As of late Tuesday evening, the inside lanes in both directions were closed to allow for repairs following what the agency is describing as a “cave-in.”

“The roadway cave-in caused damage to at least one vehicle after a driver drove into the depression damaging both front tires,” the police department wrote in an email to media. There were no injuries reported.

It is unclear how long the closing will last.

All entrances to the hospital are open and unaffected, the police department reported.
