Update: Former Middleton Football, Track Standout Found Shot

O.J. Murdock was found by Tampa Police this morning with what appears to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound. He has since died of his injuries.

Update 1:53 p.m., July 30: O.J. Murdock has died of his injuries, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Tampa Police are investigating what has been classified as an attempted suicide by former Middleton High School wide receiver and a two-time state track champion O.J. Murdock.

Murdock was found in his car by police around 8:30 a.m. today in front of the high school where he was so successful as an athlete. His injuries are listed as critical by the police. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital immediately.

There were no witnesses to the incident.

The school is currently on summer break and will not experience any disruption to its daily activity according Linda Cobbe of Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Murdock is a 2006 graduate of Middleton who went on to sign with the University of South Carolina. His college career was cut short after he was arrested for shoplifting from the University Square Mall, but he would later sign as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans before suffering a foot injury that ruled him out of last season.
