Former Tampa Police Sergeant Sentenced To 33 Months: Report

A federal judge concluded that LaJoyce Houston was involved in a tax fraud scheme and used stolen money to make purchases and pay debts.

TAMPA — A U.S. District Court judge has sentenced a former Tampa Police sergeant to nearly three years in prison.

Federal Judge Mary Scriven ruled that LaJoyce Houston was involved in a tax fraud scheme and used stolen money to make purchases and pay off debts, The Tampa Bay Times reported.

Houston worked for the Tampa Police Department for 16 years before she was fired in 2013 after allegations that she committed food stamp fraud by using a benefits card belonging to another person.
