Free Classes, Programs at Seminole Heights Branch Library in August

From open mic nights to rain barrels, find out what free programs are available at your public library.

All that rain ruining your fun and games? Check out these events at the that might keep you busy until the sun comes out.

  • Teen Crafts: Locker Magnets at 4 p.m. today.

Students can do their own thing for back to school time by creating magnets just right for their new locker this school year. All supplies are provided free.

  • Open Mic Night: Various Poets at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6.

Share your poetry and your voice with a night open to any poet. Ask the library desk for more information.

  • Dreams and Wishes at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday Aug. 7.

Nighttime is full of wishes and dreams, bring your kids ages 5-12 to walk in this dreamland of stories, games, and activities.

  • eBooks and eReaders: An Introduction at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday Aug. 9.

Have a new eReader or interested in getting one? Learn which devices can download the library’'s free eBooks and how to load eBooks onto various types of eReaders. Discover the library’s large selection of eBooks in various formats.

  • Children's Book and Film Fest at 4 p.m. on Tuesday Aug. 14.

Celebrate best seller children's books with an introduction to the book series, craft activities and a film based on the book of the day.

  • Teen Crafts: Gadget Cozies at 4 p.m. on Thursday Aug. 16.

Students can create cool carrying cases and cozies for their tech gadgets before heading back to class this fall. All supplies are provided free.

  • Financial Planning: Get FRANK With Your Money at 6 p.m. on Monday Aug. 20.

Check out this session exploring five concepts that will help individuals think seriously about the ways they can protect and grow their wealth.

  • Author Talk with James Evans at 6 p.m. on Tuesday Aug. 21. 

Former pro football player of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers James Evans will discuss his book about discovering and understanding the power of human worth and self-awareness. Empowered by his inherent worth, Mr. Evans now helps others with their own discovery.

  • Master Gardener: Rain Barrels at 6:30 p.m. on Monday Aug. 27.

Learn how to set up a rain barrel and use the chemical-free water to irrigate your landscape. Participants will receive a certificate for a free rain barrel.
