Kaleidoscope for the Home's Grand Opening Draws a Crowd

Neighborhood residents gather for socializing and shopping.

Live music, an open wine bar and tiki torches drew more than 100 people to the grand opening of , a vintage furniture and accessories store, Thursday evening.

Owner Sherry King encouraged her guests to enjoy themselves. “Have a glass of wine and spend freely,” she advised one customer.

Kaleidoscope, which features antique and retro furniture, is a new venture for King, also the owner of , a vintage clothing shop.

The opening party exceeded King's expectations. “It's been such a success,” she said.

King's business partner, Karen Brown, distributed ballots for the Ugly Lamp Contest, while customers perused furniture items that were anything but.

The new store, at 6415 N. Florida Ave., features unique furniture from the 1950s and earlier, original art pieces and other collector's items.

The customers and revelers were pleased.

“I've peeked in the window a thousand times, but this is my first time here,” said Susan Long, a Seminole Heights resident and District 2 City Council candidate. “I love it. This is great for Seminole Heights.”
