Training Class at Chamberlain High Helps Parents Cope with Difficult Family Issues

Hillsborough County is offering the course every Tuesday.

To help parents improve their coping skills when dealing with difficult family situations, Hillsborough County is offering a STEP class, or Systematic Training for Effective Parenting.

The classes will be held every Tuesday at Chamberlain High School, 9401 N. Boulevard, on a continuous cycle. Students can start anytime during the cycle, but are required to attend six classes in a row to complete the course.

The first cycle for 2011 is in session now, and runs through April 12. A second cycle is scheduled fo run May 3-June 7. The classes also fulfill court-ordered parenting class requirements.

STEP is taught nationally to parents of of children of all ages to help improve communication skills and understand children's behavior.

The cost is $11 per class, for a total of $66 for all six classes. The Parents Handbook by Dinkmeyer & McKay can be purchased online at STEPpublishers.com or calling 1-800-720-1286.
