BROWARD COUNTY, FL — A 1-year-old Tampa boy was killed and three other children were injured when the tire of a pickup truck blew out on Interstate 75 in Alligator Alley Thursday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 33-year-old man was driving the pickup truck east on I-75 with six passengers when the tire blew out, causing the pickup truck to flip over several times.

The 1-year-old was ejected and thrown in a canal where rescuers later found him dead.

A 31-year-old woman and a 56-year-old woman sustained serious injuries. The driver, a 10-year-old girl, an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old received minor injuries.

None were wearing seat belts or in child restraints.
