10-Year-Old Safe Following Hostage Situation, Police Say

A Monday morning domestic situation escalated into a standoff between Tampa police and the suspect in the case.

The incident unfolded at 1306 26th Avenue early Monday when police learned about the incident and were told by the suspect his 10-year-old child was inside. SWAT was called out to the home and nearby residents were evacuated.

Negotiators spoke with the man over the course of a three-hour period and ultimately reported just after 10:40 a.m. that the 10-year-old had been “found safe,” according to the Tampa Police Department’s Twitter page. The suspect, police said, was not inside the home.

Details in the case are not readily available.
