$152,000 In Criminal Justice Grants Awarded To Hillsborough County
Grants will be used to support community‐based services for veterans and the Juvenile Reentry Education Program.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — The Bureau of Justice Assistance has allocated $152,766 in fiscal year 2023 local Justice Assistance Grant funds to Hillsborough County for use beginning Oct. 1. Grant funding will be used for criminal justice programs, including:
- Law enforcement programs
- Prosecution and court programs, including indigent defense
- Prevention and education programs
- Corrections, community corrections, and reentry programs
- Drug treatment and enforcement programs
- Planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs
- Crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation)
- Mental health programs and services
JAG program funds currently support the Veterans’ Services Initiative and the Juvenile Reentry Education Program.
Administered by the Public Defender’s office, 13th Judicial Circuit, the Veterans’ Services Initiative supports efforts to better serve the community’s veterans by helping them access Veterans Administration and community resources, including treatment and community‐based services.

The program is expected to serve approximately 400 veterans annually.
Additionally, Success 4 Kids & Families Inc. uses JAG funds to continue its partnership with Hillsborough County Public Schools to provide services for the Juvenile Reentry Education Program. The program assists youth involved in the Hillsborough Juvenile Justice system in obtaining General Education Diplomas (GEDs) and employment. This program is expected to serve about 150 youth between the ages of 16 and 22 annually.

JAG applications will be available for review between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until Aug. 24 at the Hillsborough County Criminal Justice Office, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., 24th floor, Tampa.
