Weather forecast:
1. Sources: Rays stadium deal ‘on the rocks' amid Gov. DeSantis' property tax cut push (floridapolitics.com) — Tampa’s proposed public financing deal for a new Rays stadium is in limbo as Gov. Ron DeSantis’ push for a major property tax cut makes city and county leaders wary of committing nearly $1 billion. Local officials fear budget hits and political optics, while delays could threaten the team’s 2029 ballpark timeline.
2. Convention, cruise industries drive Tampa tourism growth (baynews9.com) — Tampa’s tourism industry is bucking Florida’s slight visitor slowdown, with record hotel revenue, strong convention bookings, and booming cruise traffic through Port Tampa Bay. Local leaders credit a strategy built around conventions, major events, and cruises, and say new cruise terminal construction and a packed convention calendar should keep Tampa’s tourism-driven economy strong through the summer.
3. ‘People are going to get hurt': Tax collector on FL legislature approving property tax relief plan (wfla.com) — A proposed increase to Florida’s homestead exemption could cut property taxes but leave Tampa and Hillsborough County facing budget shortfalls and service reductions. Local officials warn residents to expect tradeoffs in jobs and services, and urge voters to press county leaders now about which programs or fees might change before the November vote.
4. Why is Sting's Tampa concert moving to Orlando? (tampabay.com) — Tampa fans who bought tickets to Sting’s Nov. 24 show at Seminole Hard Rock will now have to travel to Orlando, as the concert is moving to Hard Rock Live due to major casino renovations. Tickets will be honored with comparable seats, or locals can request refunds through July 1 while a limited number of extra Orlando tickets go on sale Friday.
5. Another ‘teen takeover' stopped in Tampa Bay as events capture AG's attention (wfla.com) — Law enforcement across Tampa Bay, including downtown Tampa, is cracking down on so‑called “teen takeover” gatherings after recent events turned violent and led to arrests. Deputies in Hernando and Pasco counties are now preemptively blocking planned meetups, while Florida’s attorney general says statewide prosecutors are developing a plan to target organizers behind these disruptive events.
