BRANDON, FL — A man was found fatally shot inside a fitting room at Dick's Sporting Goods in Brandon on Friday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Two people were taken into custody minutes later.
Deputies responded to the store at the Brandon Exchange shopping center shortly before 4:30 p.m. after an employee called 911 to report a shooting inside the business.
Deputies arrived within four minutes and found a deceased man inside a fitting room. Two minutes later, deputies detained two people believed to be involved in the shooting.
According to the preliminary investigation, the victim and the two detained individuals entered the store together and went into a fitting room. Employees reported hearing a gunshot moments later, and surveillance video showed two people fleeing the store into the parking lot.
More than 30 deputies, including members of the Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, responded to the scene.
"There is absolutely no tolerance for violence in Hillsborough County, especially in places where families gather to shop and spend time together," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Our deputies' training prepared them to respond immediately, secure the scene, detain those involved within minutes, and bring order to a dangerous situation."
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim or announced any charges.
