TAMPA, FL — Two children were seriously injured Tuesday morning when a vehicle crashed into two apartment units in the Palm River community, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.
Officials said the crash caused significant structural damage and forced the evacuation of both buildings.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue was dispatched to Palm Bay Drive at 9:38 a.m. after reports of a vehicle crashing into an apartment building.
When firefighters arrived, they found that the vehicle had backed into one apartment before pulling forward into a second unit, causing significant structural damage to both buildings.
Firefighters secured the scene, evacuated both apartment buildings and searched for anyone inside.
Two pediatric patients, both occupants of one of the impacted apartments, were transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
Crews also safely rescued a dog from one of the evacuated apartments.
The cause of the crash has not been released and the incident remains under investigation.
