RUSKIN, FL — A 15-year-old boy was arrested after stabbing another teenager during a Monday afternoon fight in the Ruskin area, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Deputies responded to the 7-Eleven at 2371 E. Shell Point Road around 3 p.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing near the gas station.
They found the teenage victim with a stab wound to the arm, deputies said.
After applying a tourniquet to the victim's arm, they were taken to a local hospital, where they were in critical but stable condition as of Tuesday morning, HCSO said.
Investigators learned that a group of teens got into a fight on the sidewalk along Shell Point Road, near the gas station, and the victim was stabbed during the altercation.
Deputies identified the 15-year-old suspect and detained him after finding him not far from the scene.
He was charged with attempted second-degree murder with a weapon, the sheriff's office said.
Though the sheriff's office named the suspect, it's Patch policy not to name a minor accused of a crime unless they're being charged as an adult. It's not known whether the suspect is being charged as a juvenile or an adult.
Sheriff Chad Chronister credited deputies with providing quick aid to the victim.
"Violence of any kind has no place in our community," Chronister said. "We will always act swiftly and decisively to hold those responsible accountable. I want to thank our deputies for their fast response and lifesaving actions on scene. Their quick thinking made the difference for this young victim."
