Publix stores sold Friday's $875,000 and $118,000 lottery draw winners (miamiherald.com) — A Quick Pick ticket sold at a Tampa Publix on Hillsboro Avenue matched Friday's Jackpot Triple Play numbers, earning one local player an $875,000 prize. Winners must claim large prizes at Florida Lottery district offices, including the Tampa office on U.S. 301, which is open weekdays but closed on Labor Day. Another big Fantasy 5 ticket was sold in Jacksonville.
   

2. K9 Unit tracks down suspect hiding in Tampa backyard shed after allegedly fleeing deputies (fox13news.com) — Hillsborough County deputies say a man who fled a Tampa-area traffic stop was later found hiding in a backyard shed on North 48th Street, thanks to a K9 unit. The 29-year-old suspect, Vaquavien Washington, was arrested on felony charges including fleeing at high speed and burglary, though authorities haven't yet explained what prompted the original stop.
   

3. Helicopters spray Tampa neighborhoods as dengue cases climb (baynews9.com) — Helicopters are flying low over central Tampa neighborhoods like Seminole Heights as Hillsborough and Pasco counties step up mosquito spraying to curb a dengue outbreak that has infected at least 59 Hillsborough residents this year. Officials urge you to stay indoors with windows closed during spraying, follow local guidance, and regularly dump standing water around your home to reduce mosquito breeding.
   

4. Labor Day travel costs rise, but Tampa Bay visitors say they planned ahead (tampabay28.com) — If you're flying in or out of Tampa this Labor Day, expect slightly fewer travelers at Tampa International Airport but higher ticket prices, according to airport officials and AAA. Locals and visitors at TPA and Ben T. Davis Beach described budgeting strategies, from booking months ahead to driving from nearby counties instead of flying.
   

5. Florida's Largest Child-Recovery Sweep Ever Finds 163 Kids, Nets 3 Arrests (latintimes.com) — Tampa Bay led Florida in recoveries during a massive child-recovery sweep, with 46 missing children located as part of "Operation Statewide Shield." Florida law enforcement coordinated the five-day August effort from FDLE's Tampa office, ultimately finding 163 children across seven Florida hubs and generating several ongoing criminal cases. Officials say more arrests and detailed reporting on out-of-state recoveries are still expected.
