Historic Jackson House in Tampa partially collapses, concerns grow about landmark's future (fox13news.com) — A partial collapse at Tampa's historic Jackson House has city leaders urgently rethinking how to save one of the last remaining links to the city's historic Black Central Avenue community. After approving a $1 million grant last month, Tampa City Council expects an update this week from the Jackson House Foundation on a proposed $4 million restoration and how the new damage could change those plans.
   

2. Tampa's $2.04B budget advances: Council clashes with Jane Castor over control of deferred funds (floridapolitics.com) — Tampa's $2.04 billion budget for next year is moving forward, but City Council is pushing back on how Mayor Jane Castor's team controls millions in deferred spending tied to a possible statewide property tax amendment. With a final vote due September 22, council members want more say over which projects get funded now before potential revenue losses hit in 2028.
   

3. USF breaks ground on Uptown Landing development as Tampa residents raise traffic concerns (tampabay28.com) — A massive $500 million Uptown Landing project is rising next to USF's Tampa campus, bringing new student housing, apartments, a hotel, retail, and an academic building by 2028. While USF touts a vibrant new hub near the on-campus stadium, New Tampa and Tampa Palms residents are already voicing worries about worsening traffic and calling for road improvements.
   

4. Water transportation between St. Pete and Tampa to resume once again (wfla.com) — Year-round ferry service between Tampa and St. Petersburg is getting closer, with two refurbished boats expected to run seven days a week to ease bridge congestion and serve commuters and event-goers. Fares are planned at $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, with kids under 8 riding free, and officials hope Coast Guard approvals will clear the way to launch soon.
   

5. Two Tampa teens denied bond in alleged beating of homeless man: 'Nothing else to do' (fox13news.com) — Two Tampa teenagers have been denied bond on attempted murder charges after police say they joined a third teen in a brutal July beating that left a 64-year-old homeless man hospitalized with severe brain damage. Testimony from Tampa Police and defense attorneys described surveillance video, alleged confessions, and the judge's decision to keep two teens jailed while the case moves forward.
