TAMPA, FL — A 44-year-old Tampa man was killed early Saturday after losing control of his motorcycle while traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 4:40 a.m. as the man was traveling south on I-75 and taking the exit ramp to Interstate 4, troopers said.

The motorcyclist lost control of the BMW motorcycle on the wet roadway, causing it to overturn and strike a guardrail.

The rider, whose name was not released, died at the scene.
