Will we remember 9-11 next year?

Tom Mortenson, Temple Terrace community leader and one of the eight Strategic War planners who planned America's responce to 9-11 speaking at numerous events in honor of the 25th anniversary of that tragic day raised a question to those attending: "Will you remember 9-11 next year?"

Mortenson said it is easy when our Nation focused on the events of that day twenty five years ago, with politicans and civic leaders and everyday citizens participating in events throughout the Nation. "but the real question is will you remember next year when it is not a milestone year?" Mortenson asked.

"Not only will there be less news coverage, but there are now over 100 million Americans who were either born after 2001 or were too young to remember the attacks," Mortenson added.

For may there is no living memory of the events that happened on 9-11, it is up to us to teach and educate them Those who pershed that day of later as a result did not die in vain.As Abe Lincoln said in his historic Gettysburg address, "the ultimate tribute to the dead is a renewed national resolve to secure freedom and preserve a government "of the people, by the people, for the people".

Mortenson reminded his listeners of the words of Theodore Roosevelt, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."

Mortenson said that "this quote is a needed wake-up call: stop looking for someone else to led in remembering, each of us can do our part to keep the memory alive in your own community next year"
