Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Child Called 911 To Report Mother's Death: Hillsborough Sheriff (patch.com) — Residents in Tampa are reeling after a child called 911 to report their mother's death at an apartment complex on North 16th Street, prompting a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office investigation. Deputies and fire rescue crews found the woman dead at the scene, and authorities are now working to determine what happened, with few details released so far.
2. Tropical Storm Isaias Forms In Gulf, Expected To Strengthen, Forecasters Say (patch.com) — Tampa Bay residents are being told to prepare for several inches of rain and a marginal flash flooding risk as Tropical Storm Isaias strengthens in the Gulf and heads toward the northern Gulf Coast. While forecasters expect landfall near Mobile Bay and the worst conditions in the Panhandle and central Gulf Coast, the National Hurricane Center's rainfall outlook includes much of the Florida peninsula, including the Tampa area.
3. Harry Cohen pushes Hillsborough to develop new e-bike regulations (floridapolitics.com) — Hillsborough County commissioners have started drafting new rules for e-bikes, scooters and other micromobility devices, and Tampa could choose to opt into the regulations. The proposal may shape where you can ride, park and how old riders must be, as officials weigh safety concerns, enforcement options and what state law allows before bringing back a draft ordinance next meeting.
4. ZooTampa gets $75M in county funding for major expansion and upgrades (fox13news.com) — Hillsborough commissioners have committed $75 million over 15 years to transform ZooTampa, matching the zoo's own funds for a $150 million overhaul. Plans include upgraded habitats, a new South America section across North Boulevard, and continued care of Lowry Park's green space and boat ramp. Supporters say it will boost tourism and educational opportunities for Tampa families.
5. Lightning Fan Zone: Florida Aquarium entertainer sings about sharks and Bolts (tampabay28.com) — A longtime Florida Aquarium entertainer in downtown Tampa is delighting kids with catchy Aquatunes like "Sharks Have Teeth" while proudly repping his love for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He traces his hockey fandom back to cheap ticket days in 1999 and still watches every game with his son. Fans are reminded they can catch all Lightning games free on Tampa Bay 28 and the Spot 66.
