AT&T Reports Service Restored To Tampa Bay
A widespread outage of services was reported in the Tampa Bay area Friday morning.

TAMPA, FL — AT&T Tampa Bay area customers who woke up Friday morning to no service should find their communications back up and running.
"Service has been restored for all AT&T wireless customers in the Tampa and Sarasota areas of Florida affected by a local service provider issue," AT&T spokeswoman Karen McAllister wrote in a statement. "Our engineers coordinated with the local service provider to help expedite restoration efforts and service is currently running normally. We apologize for this inconvenience."
McAllister did not elaborate on the issue that created the problem, nor did she say identify the local service provider involved.

AT&T customers weren't the only ones in the Tampa Bay area experiencing problems Friday. The Sarasota Police Department had announced an issue with its internal phone lines and Internet service. The outage was initially attributed to the AT&T problem, but the police department issued a correction saying it involved a cut Verizon fiber line.

Verizon customers in Florida became Frontier Communications customers on Friday. The Connecticut-based Frontier purchased Verizon's service area throughout the Sunshine State as part of a three-state deal. It is unclear if the switchover to Frontier had anything to do with the issues experienced at the Sarasota Police Department Friday morning.
“We wish this was an April Fool’s joke, but it is not,” the agency reported in an email to media.
Service to the Sarasota Police Department was restored just after 10 a.m. Friday.
No other law enforcement agencies in the Tampa Bay area have reported issues Friday morning.
