Bern's Steak House Named Top 10 In U.S. By Lifestyles Website Gayot

TAMPA, FL — The lifestyle website, Gayot, has released its annual ranking of the best steak houses in the country and, as in previous years, the list features Bern's Steak House in Tampa.

Already renowned for its perfectly aged steaks, one of the largest wine collections in the world and its internationally famous dessert room, Bern's Steakhouse at 1208 S Howard Ave., has once again sealed its reputation for fine dining, earned a No. 4 on Gayot's list of the Top 10 Steakhouses in the U.S.A.

Bern's is in good company. The list includes:

A Tampa Bay landmark, Bern's was founded in 1956 by Bernard Laxer and his wife, Gert, after they visited Tampa.

Known to be a stickler for quality and service, Bernard (“Bern”) started his own farm to grow produce for the restaurant, and assembled the world’s largest restaurant wine cellar with more 500,000 bottles featuring 6,800 different labels, all listed in a 2-inch-thick bound book.

Hollywood celebrities, U.S. presidents and visiting world leaders have used the private back entrance at Bern's to sample the elegantly appointed restaurant's world-class steaks ages in house five to eight weeks, foie gras, escargots and fresh fish flown in daily.

Afterward, diners are invited to visit the Waugh Dessert Room upstairs and choose from more than 35 decadent sweets while listening to the pianist.
