Bob Buckhorn for Governor?

Tampa's Mayor could be lining up for the 2018 race.

Just because the dust hasn’t even begun to settle on the 2014 race for Florida’s governor’s mansion doesn’t mean 2018 hopefuls can’t start lining up.

While things are far from being etched in stone, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn is eluding to a possible run. The Democrat took office in 2011 after Mayor Pam Iorio had to step down due to term limits. Buckhorn had previously served as a long-time Tampa City Councilman and also served as a special assistant to former Mayor Sandy Freedman.

During a Wednesday morning event, Buckhorn joked with the media about a possible run. He mentioned liking being a mayor since he doesn’t have to deal with all the “nonsense” that goes along with higher offices.

“I don’t have to deal with any of that,” the Tampa Bay Times quoted him as saying. “At least, yet.”

Buckhorn went on to mention “there will be an open seat in four years.”
