Bruno The Bull Terrier Has Brush With Blaze, Saved By Firefighters

A dog is back in the arms of his owner after being rescued and resuscitated by Hillsborough firefighters at his north Tampa home.

TAMPA, FL — A bull terrier named Bruno had a close call Wednesday morning when his owner's apartment in North Tampa caught fire while he was home alone.

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, at 10:38 a.m. the dispatch center received a call from a neighbor reporting a fire in the apartment next door in Terrace Palms apartments, 5013 Terrace Club Lane in north Tampa.

Engine 14 arrived first and found smoke pouring out of a first-floor apartment. Fire crews stretched a hose line into the building, and began an aggressive interior attack, limiting the fire to the kitchen and putting it out in 10 minutes.

In the process of dousing the blaze, firefighters found a dog unconsious in the apartment. Working quickly, paramedics gave the dog high-flow oxygen through a special oxygen mask designed for pets, eventually reviving the dog.

Firefighters discovered that the resident of the apartment had accidentally left the stove on.
